Device

The test runs on Google PageSpeed Insights and can take 20 to 60 seconds. We don’t store the address you enter.

Reading the results

What does this test measure?

Google takes page experience into account in rankings. Visitors don’t wait for a slow page either: they go back and click another result.

Performance score

A summary out of 100 of how fast the page loads in a test environment. 90 and above is good, 50 to 89 needs work, below 50 is poor.

LCP: largest content

How long the largest image or block of text takes to appear. Under 2.5 seconds is good. It drives the visitor’s sense that “the page has loaded”.

INP: response to interaction

How quickly the page responds when a visitor taps a button. Under 200 milliseconds is good. It only shows for sites with real visitor data.

CLS: layout shift

How much content jumps around while the page loads. Under 0.1 is good. On a shifting page, visitors tap the wrong thing.

SEO score

The basic checks Google needs to read your page: title, description, crawlability, link text and image alt text.

Real visitor data

For sites with enough traffic, Google also shows what Chrome users experienced over the last 28 days. Google takes this data into account in rankings.

FAQ

Website speed test: frequently asked questions

Is the test free?

Yes. We don’t ask you to sign up or leave an email. The test runs on Google PageSpeed Insights and the results appear right on this page.

Do you store the address I enter?

We don’t store it. Because Google runs the measurement, the address is sent to the Google PageSpeed Insights service.

Why are the results slightly different each time?

Test measurements vary with the server’s response and network conditions at that moment. A difference of a few points is normal. For a reliable picture, look at real visitor data and the average of several tests.

Why is my mobile score lower than desktop?

The mobile test simulates a slower phone and connection. Since most of your visitors come from phones, the mobile result is the one that matters most.

My score is low. What should I do?

Start with the top items under “What slows your site down most”; large images, unnecessary plugins and slow hosting are the usual suspects. If you like, we can go through the results with you on an intro call.
