Pricing

What drives the cost of a website?

We don’t publish a price list, because no two businesses need the same thing. This page explains what sets the price of a website and how to compare quotes.

Factors

8 things that set the price

If two quotes are far apart, they are usually offering something different in one of these areas.

Number of pages and content

How many pages there are and how much goes on each sets the size of the job. A five-page brochure site and a site with dozens of service pages are not the same project.

Design

Adapting a ready-made template takes far less work than a design made for your business. Which one suits you depends on your brand and goals.

Features and integrations

Bookings, appointments, memberships, quote forms or links to software you already use all add to the scope.

E-commerce

The number of products and variants, payment and shipping, and marketplace or accounting integrations drive the price of an online store more than anything else.

Languages

Every extra language means separate copy, separate checks and separate SEO work.

Copy and images

Will you prepare the content, or do you need help with writing and photography? The answer affects both price and timeline.

SEO work

Every site should have its SEO foundations built in from the start. Ongoing content and tracking to compete for busy searches is a separate service.

Running costs

Domain, hosting, business email, any licenses and maintenance renew every year or month. Think of them separately from the build cost.

Comparing quotes

How to compare quotes

The lowest figure isn’t always the cheapest job. Surprise costs later and a site you can’t move soon wipe out the difference.

What a quote should include

  • A list of pages and the scope of each
  • Whether the design is a template or made for you
  • Whose name the domain and hosting are registered in
  • Who provides the copy and images
  • How many rounds of revisions are included
  • What support covers after launch
  • Yearly and monthly costs listed separately

Questions for a cheap quote

  • Is the domain registered in your name or the agency’s?
  • Is the site on a platform you can move to another provider?
  • Are mobile speed and SEO foundations included?
  • Who handles updates and backups?
  • Do renewal fees in year two match year one?
FAQ

Website cost: frequently asked questions

How much does a website cost?

A single figure would be misleading, because the number of pages, design, features, languages and content support all set the price. After the intro call we send a quote that spells out every item.

Is it a one-off payment, or are there ongoing costs?

Design and build are usually one-off. Domain, hosting, email and any licenses renew yearly or monthly. Maintenance and SEO are optional ongoing services. We list these separately in the quote.

Is a template site cheaper?

Usually at the start, yes. But if the template doesn’t fit your needs, later changes, slow pages and license renewals can close the gap. At the intro call we tell you which suits you, and why.

Why don’t you publish prices?

We don’t sell packages. A package either includes things you don’t need or leaves out things you do. We listen first, then quote only what’s needed.
